Earlier this year, the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, took the world by surprise, upending lives and threatening to disrupt the academic year.

In response, LAU marshaled its resources to confront the health crisis while ensuring the safety of its community and raising awareness of the pandemic and its risks.

LAU faculty collaborated in research on the evolution and transmission patterns of the COVID-19 virus, SARS-CoV-2. Data forecasting the impact of the pandemic was compiled and made public in an effort to mitigate its spread.

Forced into lockdown, faculty moved swiftly to migrate their classes online and staff ensured the running of the university from their homes.

But for our medical teams, the battle against the disease had to be waged on the frontlines. Physicians, nurses, residents, alumni and volunteers worked tirelessly and selflessly to be where they were needed the most, crisscrossing the country to safeguard the health of the Lebanese population.

Throughout, and with students’ best interests in mind and at heart during a deepening economic crisis, the university has taken every measure, culminating in the launch of the Emergency Financial Aid Fund, to ensure they continue with their education.

Our Fight Against COVID-19 offers an overview of the research, community efforts, learning, and initiatives undertaken by LAU faculty, staff, students and alumni thus far, which will continue as long as the threat of the pandemic persists.
